Minutes of the August 2010 Branch Meeting.

6th August 2010 Mount Batten Lounge R.B.L. Margate. S/M H. Allen in the Chair

There were 28 Members present and 5 apologies.

Opening.
The chairman opened the meeting at 20:00 with a silent tribute for those shipmates that had slipped their cables.
Welcome.
The chairman welcomed back from sickbay S/M’s Ron Baker & Shady Lane.
Minutes.
The minutes of the July meeting were read they were accepted and proposed by S/M Bernie Butten and seconded by S/M. Denis Whitehead.
Maters arising .
There were no matters arising.
Correspondence
Letter from E.K. Branch Submariners thanking the branch for parading the standard at the funeral of John Rae at Ash church on 6th July.
Also a letter of apologies as this weekend is the diesel boats reunion.
A letter to S/M Taft thanking him for parading the standard at the battle of Britain Remembrance Day at Caple-le Ferne.
A letter thanking the branch for the donation to the Arethusa figurehead fund.
A letter and sponsorship form from the two fat submariners who are cycling from John o’groats to lands end, a marathon in Poland and next year swimming the channel.
Mayors programme, autumn dance, Fashion show, & the civic service at St John’s church on Sunday 12th September.
A welfare request from the veteran’s welfare service passed on to Betty.
Website hit inviting members to Bude RFC if in that area meetings 1stThursday @19:30.
Area diary dates highlights Pembroke House Garden party on Sat 28th August.
An invite from the new secretary of deal branch on September 18th 19:30 for 20:00
The National circular various items read.
The August copy of Warship magazine.
The Correspondence was proposed by S/M John Watkins and seconded by S/M Reg Cooper.

Treasurer’s Report.
S/M Taft gave the financial statement for July with total branch assets of £1525-94. The report was accepted and proposed by S/M Ron Pitway and seconded by S/M Reg Cooper

Social Report
S/M Taft reminded all that he was collecting money for the Trafalgar dinner on Friday 16th October at the Swan Westgate cost to members is £14-00 per head and £20 to guests.

Welfare Report.
S/M Chris Cesana read the report written by S/M Betty Hazleton.
S/M Doris Bishop is now in much better health after eye problems.
S/M Ron Baker back with us tonight, as is S/M Shady Lane who has ongoing problems. S/M Dolly Gray is now improved and on holiday.


Standard Bearers Report.
S/M Taft reported he had paraded our standard at Ash church for the funeral submariner John Rae. Then at the Battle of Britain parade at Caple le Ferne, and at the Lord Lieutenant of Kent memorial service at Manston.

T/S Jamaica Sea Cadets.
The chairman spoke about the cadet’s new boat saying it had been launched and used on 2 occasions.

Press release for August 2010

Our monthly meeting took place on Friday 6th August with 28members present. There was a happy return from sickbay of shipmates Ron Baker and “Shady” Lane who were both in good sprits, also nice to hear that Doris Bishop is feeling better.
Planning is again underway for this year’s Trafalgar events, dinner at the Swan Westgate on Friday 15th, and the parade which will be shorter this year is on Sunday 24th October.
Forty years ago on July 31st 1970 many of us drunk our last rum ration (The tot) we are still trying to make up for this, by the way did we ever get recompensed for it?
We finished our meeting with “Up Spirits” happy birthday to our chairman Harry Allen and vice chair John Chapman.
We invite any serving and former Royal Naval, WRNS, Royal Marines, QARNNS, and Fleet auxiliary personnel to join us and swing the lamp over a tot. Our meeting are held above the Royal British Legion Club Margate.
Our next meeting will be on Friday 3rd September at 20:00.
